Justin McMillan“Justin McMillan is a young upstart musician based out of Toronto who has a knack for catchy little pop/rock ditties that stay in your head for weeks. He was a runner up in the 2007 Songwriter Awards and garners positive attention wherever and whenever he plays. McMillan is currently working on his debut album, The Style At The Time.” – Wildy, wildysworld.blogspot.com

Justin McMillan is on an unstoppable venture to the top of the music scene.  Capturing the interest of audiences across Toronto and beyond, his music has been quoted as being “unique, catchy, exciting, and intoxicating”.  Such a tasty feast of musical expressiveness (see footnote) is sure to leave the listener singing and dancing until his/her feet and throat are sore.  This music truly hooks and relates to quite a large array of people.

Justin grew up listening to music non-stop – everything from rockabilly to psychedelic rock. He mastered several instruments at an early age, including trumpet, guitar, bass, and drums.  Within months of his debut musical performance, Justin was playing many instruments in bands and showcases throughout his hometown.  He became known as a multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire with a unique musical taste.  Bands were asking him to join and audiences were asking him to perform.

After years of being exposed to and playing almost every genre of music, Justin’s palette was quite diverse and expansive.  He had finally gained the important, and seemingly lost, knowledge that all music is in fact equal, and therefore should be played, listened to, and enjoyed for what it truly is.

In addition to creating and developing his own solo musical career, Justin has helped in the writing, recording, and overall production of almost every band he has been a part of.  He has also composed several soundtracks for short independent films and jingles for local advertisements.  He is recognized by many as a professional musician, being a composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and solo artist.

So hop on the McMusic train (it’s more of a bus, really), enjoy the tunes, and look out for more action-packed music.  Justin continues to perform his music in as many areas as possible, from intimate acoustic singer/songwriter events to full band shows, while reaching for a Q4 2008 debut album release.

Footnote: Expressiveness is indeed a real word.

brian-mcdermott-150x150I make my living as a carpenter and have spent the last 20 years playing drums with various bands on the fringes of the Chicago music scene.  It was about seven years ago when I bought my then wife a guitar for her birthday or Christmas or something.  Anyway she never really played it but I started playing it every chance I got; I think I knew when I bought it that it was really for me and it was going to change my life.

The guitar made sense to me and I continued teaching myself to play.  It wasn’t long before I started playing and singing songs that I liked and then writing my own.  I really felt that my whole life had been leading up to this.  In fact the first song that I wrote -The Things I Wouldn’t Do For You- had been swimming around in my head for years before I ever picked up a guitar.

I’ve never been accused of being prolific but I wrote steadily through my divorce and recovery from it and at some point I realized that I had written some really good songs. Tapping into the studio engineering classes I took in college, I started building up a home studio and recording some of these songs.  At this time I also started playing in front of people, which was very hard to do at first but I kept at it until I started feeling comfortable.

Initially I played everything myself but later on I invited in a guitarist named David Nekola, that I knew from an old band, to handle some of the more difficult guitar parts.  David really added a new dimension to the songs on which he played. We recently added Mitch Straffer on bass.

My cd called Deep is out now and I am working on backing it up with some live gigs here in Chicago.
