RadioRNR Artist: Sassy Kraimspri

Pop-sensibilities choked on Norse Black Metal roots, mixed with a love for 40s blues and old school punk make for the tantalizing mix that is Sassy Kraimspri’s sound. Born on the raging South Coast of Norway and raised in the punk rock world of underground New York City, Sassy then spent six years slaving away at University and living it up in Sydney’s rock and roll centre- already an international musician before her first full-length release.

A gig veteran at 21, she has countless gems of live moments under her belt, most shiny and most recently: CBGB’s (New York, USA ‘06), North By North East (Toronto, Canada ‘06) and the Quart Festival (Norway ‘07- notably sharing a bill with The Who, fellow Norwegian rock gods Turbonegro, the Beastie Boys and Juliette and the Licks). known for her sexy and energetic live show and the her band’s tight, hard-hitting backing. All this has been punctuated by fantabulous smaller gigs here and there all over Australia, Norway and the US.

She recorded her first tracks which became a pink 7″ EP in 2000 under the tutelage of indie Norwegian record label Mother Ocean Records, who later helped her forge the producer relationship with former A-Ha and 21 Guns bassist-come-producer Leif Johansen.

After a few years of pre-production and fine-tuning, she is now ready with her debut album, “Dirty White Lies” and she has assembled a gang of worthy and spree-hungry thugs to help her perform it worldwide. Songs “Toy Boy”, “Noose” and “All For Me” have already been heard on radio stations across the world (NRK P2- Wasabi in Norway, GaelicRadio.com, FBi in Sydney and various College stations in the US). The album was released through her own record label, Lady Luck Records.

Sassy and the band are playing gigs through the new year, writing new songs and preparing to record the second album, . Ladies and Gentlemen, we ain´t seen nothin´ yet.

The Thugs:

Tricky Dicky Downfall: (Live Lead Guitar) recruited to Norway from Sydney for his shredding and tapping abilities while in legendary thrash punk band Smash n’ Grab. He enjoys sewing and picking fights on the weekend. His favourite sayings include: “I’m gonna stab you in the neck with a screwdriver”, and “I’ll smash your fu@#ing c#$nt in “. What a charmer.

Tevanga: backing vocals, booty shaking Norwegian woods-nymph. Hoards gold and diamonds, will pick your pocket whilst whispering in your ear, and steal your heart in same second.

Freddy: brooding, fire breathing skins-beater and iron-welder of the far North of Norway. True Viking material, most likely to get naked and beat you if you mess with him on the wrong night.

Towards the end of 2006 Kid Crystal (Bitch Queens) and Hede (Zamarro) had the idea of pooling their strengths and go on a musical adventure together but without a bass, we all know, any journey’s only half as fun. So after a legnthy search they where surprised that Sebastian (Fucking Beautiful) was up for it, despite having like the others plenty on his plate already, he was ready for some bottom end action.

At the very first session this constellation gelled and they knew they had something special on their hands, but still it wasn’t perfect as a distinctive voice was missing.

And that turned out to be a hard nut to crack. But after another lengthy search they were again surprised to find Giusy (Phebus) as their man. Not only was he a wonderful energetic singer with a fireball creative spark but also a hard working teamplayer who fit into the dogs’s eclectic mix, of anything goes, like a glove.

The songs that almost wrote themselves were rehearsed and arranged until they shone like rough diamonds and the first shows followed suit.

From the Hirscheneck (Basel), the Hill Chill Festival (Riehen), and Gaswerk (Winterthur), to Mascotte (ZŸrich) they have gone from strength to strength and decided in october 08 to record their first album.

“Smokin’” will be released at the beginning of 2009 and surely no stage will be safe anymore. Cheers and down the hatch …

Twas a foggy night in a small Okie town, when Joshua Morgan, Ryan Bartholemule Mills and Gary Reid went riding sweet motor scooters. They stopped at a fork in the road and said “Hey man, let’s start a band!” So they did…and it sucked.

They boys grew older and more mature. Gary moved off to a western town in the plains of great Wyoming and things were looking down for the boys of picture perfect. However, the days went by and people changed. One day Gary was on a school bus going to the nearby town of Sundance for a footie-ball game. He was

listening to a band that starts with a Blink and ends with an 182, when a young blonde headed boy named Austin, who’s nature was as sweet as the tulips, danced and softly said “Excuse me Mr. but is that Blink 182 I hear?” Gary’s Okie instincts sprung out the words: “Oh yeah shoot dang lets have a hoe-down…or perhaps a hootnanny!”

Well to make a long story short: Mark, Tom and Travis of Blink 182 inspired the boys to start up a sock-hoppin’ band with a couple little diddy’s. Gary and Austin started jamming out and met this dude called Case Maranville who let them cut a record. They met back up with their old friends from Oklahoma, Josh and Ryan. Together they are Based On Fiction.

So come to a show, buy our CD, make us breakfast…it doesn’t matter.
Just meet us…ya naw mane?

RadioRNR Artist:Angry Panda

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Timmy Miano (b. 1980) has been recording and performing punk, folk and country songs under the name Angry Panda since 1998. His performances at clubs, festivals, college campuses, basement keggers, birthday parties, sports bars and coffee shops across the country grab crowds in unexpected places and leave them aching for more. He has played hundreds of shows from the Heartland to the West Coast; from Uncle Hungry’s in Corvallis, OR to Cal’s Bar in Chicago to opening for Joe Jack Talcum in St. Louis.

“I got my start as a musician as bassist in a Nirvana cover band in my hometown of St. Louis when I was 12. It was around then that I joined the school orchestra as bassist. Soon I began writing punk songs, but I found more lyrical inspiration from songwriters like John S. Hall of King Missile, The Dead Miilkmen, and They Might be Giants, and Ween. After years of playing guitar and bass in different bands that straddled the line between completely enraged punk rock and quirky alternative, I discovered I could use keyboard drums and a tape player to write and record songs without having all the distractions and people of a band. Taking a cue from a few of my favorite bands, including Beck and Ween, I started recording on my own.

This came in handy when I moved to Springfield, MO to get my music degree and suddenly found myself alone in a dorm room with nothing to do but play with my 4-track and whatever I felt like using as an instrument at the time. But I’d gotten hooked on performing live, so it wasn’t long before I found a stage to play. Since a lot of what I did was very lyric-oriented, I decided that for a live show I could just play guitar and sing the songs I’d recorded and still get the messages across.

After 2 months of college I cut my middle finger so deep the tendons split and I spent 3 months in a cast, learning to play without moving my middle finger just in case. I even did a couple shows while wrapped in hard plastic brace that forced my hand into a claw thanks to pain killers and the encouragement of a few fans. I owe a lot to them both and visit each semi-regularly.

Eventually I dropped the Tupperware percussion sections, multi-effects pedals, sandwich eating sounds, and melodic Coke bottles from my recordings as well my live show. In 1999 I hooked up with Wee Rock Records and released my first album. I also toured the west coast with WRR band Fugue as bassist and show-opening solo act whenever possible. Around this time I had my first documented gran mail seizure. I’d had dizzy spells since I was a kid, now it turns out it’s epilepsy. The doctors think it has something to do with being attacked with a hammer by a group of boys when I was younger, but whatever it was, it’s controllable and has only served to give me some unique perspective.

So when you see the shaky guy on stage with the scar on his forehead and the strangely crooked left middle finger singing happily about why he’s mad, you know you’re looking at Angry Panda. I think that’s all that’s important here.”

Angry Panda is represented by Mono Americano Records, along with fellow Springfield rockers The Dirty Blondes and The Disappointments.

RadioRNR Artist: Gai Daigoji

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

In the beginning there was nothing. The universe was a vast expanse of nothingness, and everything was calm. Out of that calm arose an immense explosion, and it was in the ensuing cacophony of claustrophobic celestial bodies that spawned Gai Daigoji. Gai Daigoji was everywhere, and was overwhelming for the newly formed universe. The universe knew of the great power contained in Gai Daigoji, and also knew that the infant universe was not yet ready for such an immense power. And so it was decided that Gai Daigoji should be sent forward in time, to a time better prepared to deal with such an enormous power.

Gai Daigoji was not to return until the year 2005 A.D. In 2005 A.D. Gai Daigoji was released. What you hear now are only the first echoes of the celestial symphony. Its true power is only now beginning to emerge. Consider yourself warned.
