We have many influences. Geoff and Ross’s favorite bands [Influences]: offspring, pennywise, lamb of god, tool, pantera, and arch enemy, can be seen from time to time throughout the sweeping melodies of our music.
Latex Grenade: The Story
Latex Grenade was an interesting name. Skeptics did not care much for the name, but people soon grew to love it when they understood the very significance of the title.
Geoff Davis met a boy named John. John Himmel was his name. Johnny boy played the drums. Geoff noticed that John played a very different style than him. He also thought he looked really goofy when he played, but Geoff was a desperate man. After looking for drummers for many years, Geoff offered John an opportunity to try out for his band. John gladly took the offer, and had a glorious jam session with Geoff Davis. The problem was, Geoff had no band. The only band that existed was the two man group of Johnny on the drums, and Geoff on the guitar. They tried to play with many bassists and guitarists for quite sometime, but after going through them like Tijuana prostitutes, they began to lose hope. Sadly, Geoff and John began to lose hope.
One day, Geoff and John were watching this absolutely horrible band playing at lunch. John turned to Geoff and said, “ Wow man I never thought we’d ever hear a band that was worse than us.” After becoming greatly angry and offended at the cynical remark, Geoff agreed and realized that they weren’t going anywhere with just the two of them. He realized that there can only be one famous two-man group out there, and the White Stripes had already clamed their title. They did notice something very unique about this band, though. The bassist was playing some crazy riffs and making the band sound, still horrible, but much better. Once again, John looked at Geoffrey and said, “Wow man that bass player sure is good.” Geoff laughed because of how goofy Johnny boy made that remark, but he also agreed. After a few seconds of thinking, Geoff said, “You no what Johnny boy? If that bass player didn’t stand there like a frozen ice sculpture, then he would be pretty damn good“. John laughed and agreed.
Geoff failed to pass 11th grade English the previous year, so he had to retake it. Anyways, the next day Geoff actually showed up to English class. He looked and saw this little quiet kid in the corner that looked very familiar. He quickly thought, wow what a coincidence! That’s that rad bass player who looks like a statue when he plays! Geoff approached the young man and introduced himself. The young man’s name was Ross Garcia. Geoff smiled and said, “How would you like to try out for my band, Ross?” Ross laughed and said, “I’d love to!” Geoff only let him try out under one condition, though. He made him promise that he has to get nuts when he plays and play with great energy instead of like a statue.
Days went by, nights became days, and Bull Rider was in the making. After hard work they produced one great hit after another. Currently they are booking shows and getting tuned up to have a great year and to show every young man and women the true importance of Bull Rider. It’s not just a band, but a way of life. It’s not just a past time, but an addiction. Its what we’ve always dreampt of; freedom.
In July 2009 Bull Rider was officially Changed to the name Latex Grenade.
