RadioRNR Artist: Aaron MacDonald

image_amacAaron MacDonald is an up-and-coming singer and songwriter from Mabou, Nova Scotia. His album offers a catchy, folk-style rock that will set listeners dancing and tapping their feet. Coupled with MacDonald’s voice-to-remember tones and cause-for-pause lyrics, the album is a listeners delight; his performance a sensory experience. MacDonald was also a 2009 ECMA NOMINEE – POP RECORDING OF THE YEAR.

The title track and inspiration for the album, “John Prine’s Advice”, was written after a final tour stop in Montreal. Upon traveling back to Nova Scotia, MacDonald penned the tune and decided to go back to his roots, beautiful Cape Breton Island, and get back to the basics of writing songs.

This is the first new album in 5 years for the 31-year-old artist. Long recognized by his Nova Scotian fan base for the unique and raw talent he possesses, this album crystallizes his abilities.

“Aaron is, to say the least, an incredible entertainer,” said Corey Bradbury, Vice President of Events at St. Francis Xavier University, after a recent show. “His lyrical elegance and on-stage presence make his show a date to circle on the calendar.”

Jimmie Inch, Executive Producer/Host, East Coast Countdown says, “Aaron MacDonald is one of this region’s top new singer / songwriters. His latest CD, John Prine’s Advice, is a great collection of songs and an excellent showcase of his writing and performing skills.”

John Prine’s Advice pays tribute to the influence Prine had on MacDonald’s musical career. Various turns of phrase throughout the album are reminiscent of Prine’s lyrical ability, and the songs have the ability to stand alone as poems in and of themselves. Yet within the songs are lines that, while treating the near and dear important subjects of his own life, have the universal ring of truth and beauty. They are not only singable and memorable, they offer listeners those little moments of transcendence that can be so elusive.

MacDonald notes, “These songs, together, culminate the last couple of years of my life. I hope people can find some connection with them and enjoy the songs the way we enjoy playing them.”

MacDonald’s lyrics contain a clarity of expression we have come to love in singers like Dave Matthews, Paul Simon and Jack Johnson. His natural gift has enabled him to share the stage with such acts as Blue Rodeo, The Trews, Joel Plaskett, Gordie Sampson, Ashley MacIsaac, Jimmy Rankin, Great Big Sea and so many others. Aaron MacDonald is a voice to remember; his performances are chocolate for the soul.

MacDonald’s song, “Drizzle” was chosen as a selected track on RadioRNR’s New Faces, New Music Vol. 3 Compilation series.aaron-macdonald
